A Nintendo idea. mos def in progress
It’s Christmas time. Melanie lives in Los Angeles with her boyfriend, Taddow, and takes a shower while singing. She’s twenty one. He, the boyfriend, comes in and beatboxes while she sings. Melanie instantly gets shy and stops him. He says she has the voice of an angel. She isn’t confident to believe him. She splashes water from the long shower head on his face. Taddow goes into a Foodarama (low-brow grocery store) handling his business and gets arrested by the cops on the toilet. He’s mistaken for a suspect in the area. There’s a scared white cop and a corny black cop with a flat top. It so happened that the cashier had a case of mistaken identity.
Melanie can’t pay the rent for the apartment or bail and has to either head to school or get out her comfort zone like her boyfriend told her before he went in and start singing.By this time, Taddow is arrested. As much as he pleads his case, the cops still take him down. Black skin = little value. Melanie IS skeptical of why they choose her man... Young; NOT DUMB.
It’s until she hears that her favorite singer, Talc Cooper, is hospitalized from “exhaustion” before her highly anticipated album, 20 FOR 40, that she must make a CHOICE. Save her boyfriend or her favorite singer's career. Mel knows that never happens and seeks to find out why this beloved singer is being ostracized so much. She gets her brother, M. Tevis, to help her because he’s a computer geek.
Melanie produces a demo tape from old recordings along the years. Out of about 430 tracks, she finds a decent EP/LP full of BANGERS. M. Tevis helps her. Now, Melanie can leave her apartment and trek on foot to find Talc’s whereabouts.
Melanie goes to a bar and there’s an open mic with Junior, a comedian. Stage name: Early Seasons. She finds him funny. She gets a good hotel room for one night. Doesn’t let Junior in....... It’s her first time in one since she’s kinda young. The sirens of the night scare her and she's really small. Above her, there’s rumbling so she gets 2 hours of sleep. She wakes up with bags under her eyes; sees that it was a dogwith stupid owners the next morning.
The next morning Junior comes to see her and tells her about the continental breakfast downstairs. It’s new to Melanie. She fills up two big cups of punch because Junior tells her they shut off the drinks everyday. Junior also gives her points on his hotel card just in case she needs it. Melanie and Junior talk about music. They hit it off, but Melanie doesn’t want to get attached. She tells him about her boyfriend and naturally Junior doesn’t really care. He’s a gentleman, but hides his intentions because she’s vulnerable at the time. She gives him a kiss on the cheek and is on her way.
Talc, Mel's favorite singer, raises complete hell in the hospital once she regains herself. Orders expensive shit, gets on the nurses nerves, getsthe media in and causes publicity stunts. Melanie plays her demo CD for Junior. He really likes it. She sings her version of “Just Got Paid” by Johnny Kemp at the same open mic. She hits it off and the audience loves it. Back at the jail, Taddow tries to keep his head above water and stay to himself. The inmates think he’s a wimp for this. Mel calls to check on him and he nearly cries like a baby.
After a small car chase, Talc takes Mel’s demo...
Mel makes her way to the hospital and somehow maneuvers her way
into meeting Talc with a media pass made by Junior. She gives her
the demo and Talc listens to it. She loves it. She takes her demo
and gives her personal number. Talc takes it and leaves.
Later, she tells M. Tevis and they talk about how much money their
gonna make and opportunity to come. She calls the number, but it
2. doesn’t work...
Mel convinces Talc to help her out ultimately because her boyfriend is in jail for a crime he didn’t commit.
First, Mel saves Talc’s career with the demo tape she made that they converse on. Talc goes back on tour and gets a new label deal from this. Now, Mel can ultimately hustle money independently, and finds that real confidence.
